Low Traffic Neighbourhoods

Low Traffic Neighbourhoods have been implemented by local councils across the Capital. These are areas where filtered permeability and traffic calming are implemented with the purpose of:

    • Reducing through car traffic on selected streets
    • Creating more appealing environments for walking and cycling, while maintaining accessibility for local residents, deliveries and emergencies
    • Reducing pollution and improving air quality, contributing towards a more environmental friendly London.

In the neighbourhoods this scheme is in operation, bollards or planters with signage have been installed at entry and exit points to signal the restrictions to drivers, though some roads do not include bollards and are subject to signs only.

The access points are camera operated, so the use of automatic number-plate recognition cameras and road signs allows vehicle access for residents and emergency services while prohibiting unrelated through traffic.

Please note, although some road entrances are no longer accessible, all Roundtrip locations will have a free route available to access the car club bays where the vehicles must be returned to at the end of each reservation. Anybody who drives through a restricted traffic filter within a Low Traffic Neighbourhood is subject to receive a traffic violation.

For more information, please take a look on the local authorities website.
