Damage Protection

What is a damage waiver?

As with most walks of life, it is a clever idea to cover your bases. If you're aged 25+, have had no Zipcar accidents in the past 12 months, then you are eligible to purchase a waiver. Zipcar has a range of Damage Fee Waivers available to members that can cover you on a monthly or an annual basis.  A waiver allows you to reduce or eliminate the damage fee. Purchasing a waiver won't change your insurance coverage—it just changes the maximum amount you'll be charged if you're involved in an incident with your Zipcar. All our damage excess waivers cover your Roundtrip and Zipcar Flex trips.

For more information on the cost of our waivers, please log in to your Zipcar account online or via the app to see which type and level of waiver you can get as well as manage the waiver that is on your account.

Please note that a damage fee waiver becomes effective on the purchase date and time. Waivers are non-refundable.

How to add a Waiver to your account:

On the Zipcar website:

  • Sign into your account here.
  • On Manage your account page under Your account click next to Damage Protection.
  • Select the protection plan you’d like to add and click Confirm protection.

On the Zipcar mobile app:

  • Sign into your Zipcar mobile app
  • On the account screen and click on Damage protection
  • Select the plan you’d like to add and click Purchase Plan

Zipcar for Business

If you’re a Zipcar for Business member then your account admin will either opt you in or out of the damage protection. Business waivers are charged on a per-trip basis and your excess will either be completely reduced or to £250 and the cost for this will be displayed as you reserve and in your invoices. If you are a Business account owner and would like to learn more about how damage protection works then please call your account manager.
