Ending Your Roundtrip Zipcar Booking: Important Steps and Tips

Important things to keep in mind when returning your vehicle

Once you're done with your trip, you can end your booking to make the car available to be booked by others. Before you do that, here are some things to keep in mind:

  • Make sure the car has at least 1/4 tank of fuel
  • Clean out the car - it should be as clean as (or cleaner than) you found it
  • All personal belongings are to be taken with you
  • Return the car to the home location it belongs to
  • The keys have been returned to the holder in the glovebox
  • Close all the doors
  • Lock the car using your iPhone® or Android™ mobile app or Zipcard. 

How to end your trip

To end your Zipcar trip, follow the steps below:

  1. Open your Zipcar iPhone® or Android™ mobile app
  2. Click Drive from the menu
  3. Select End Trip to finish the reservation 
If I don't end my Zipcar trip, will it end automatically? 
Yes, as long as the car has been returned to its Car Club Bay, the ignition is off, and the doors have been closed and locked, your trip will automatically end at the end-time of your booking.
What should I do if I'm unable to return my Zipcar to its spot or location?

If you're having difficulty returning your Zipcar to the parking spot it belongs to, open up the location details of the car's home location to see if any guidance or troubleshooting is available.

You can find this information in your booking confirmation email, or on the My Trips section of your mobile app (find the trip and select View Details). There you might find helpful tips on what to do if the parking spot is occupied or suspended, the road is closed, or if a garage is closed.
